Money Clubs

Money clubs are sometimes known as investment clubs. These clubs are like any other in the sense that they meet, make joint decisions based on voting, and help to educate the members of the clubs during meetings. Investment clubs allow for individuals to pool their resources and come together to learn about the market. By pooling both their financial resources and their collective knowledge of investing, the members of the money club stand to benefit. Most money clubs require an initiation fee followed by monthly contributions to the club. These funds are used to pay for educational services such as when a guest speaker comes to talk to the club and give investing advice as well as to fund the investment portfolio that is chosen by the members of the club.

How They Work

Most investment clubs are based on the idea of a partnership. Although the term partnership often carries connotations that there are only two individuals involved this is not always the case. Money clubs are partnerships between all the members of the club in the sense that all of the members benefit equally from investment success but share the responsibility of investment failures. However, not all money clubs are general partnerships. Some are limited liability companies while others are limited liability partnerships.

Meeting

While the main focus of most investing clubs is to generate profit for the members of the clubs, another main goal of all money clubs is to educate its members so that they can become better individual investors outside of the club as well as be informed voters and decision makers within the club itself. Therefore, many clubs allocate a portion of their time and money to learning about the market and various investment opportunities and strategies. Most of this learning process takes place in the meetings that are held.

Technology

While these meetings traditionally take place in brick and mortar buildings, the widespread use of the internet has made it possible for investor club meetings to be held online in the realm of cyberspace. This has opened up new possibilities for money clubs as investors are no longer limited to forming local investment clubs. They can now use technology to secure a membership from around the globe and hold their meeting in cyberspace.
